The question is not whether you like it. It is whether it is asking for the attention you need.
Music is the default. Most people reach for it before they reach for anything designed, and for many tasks that is a reasonable choice. The cases where it is a poor one are specific and predictable.
Lyrics and language work are the clear conflict
The most consistent finding in this area is unglamorous: language competes with language.
Reading, writing, editing and anything else that runs verbal working memory is measurably disrupted by intelligible speech, including sung lyrics. The effect does not depend on liking the music, and familiarity does not remove it — a song you know well may be worse, because you can follow it without effort.
